    Description

This photo is an excellent high quality 8” x 10” black & white glossy new photo reproduction of an early-1930’s INDIANA Model 95 Tractor pulling a Tandem-Axle Freight Trailer for SCOTT COUNTY CANNED FOODS, MORGAN PACKING CO., AUSTIN, INDIANA … now known as MORGAN FOODS.
”SAMPLE” will not appear on your photo, it is only on the scanned image.
DESCRIPTION: This INDIANA Model 95 tractor would have been considered pretty modern in the early 1930s, with a fully enclosed cab, sun visor, and Budd wheels. The tractor was fleet no. 21 owned and operated by Morgan Packing Co. using the trade name of Scott County Canned Foods.  The tandem semi-trailer would have been considered ‘large’ for its time. Note the rollback landing gear with steel-spoke wheels. Imagine this photo in color, with tractor-trailer in bright red and all lettering in a contrasting bright yellow … some sight on the highways in the 1930s!
HISTORY OF MORGAN FOODS: The MORGAN FOODS story is an incredible American success story located in a small town in southern Indiana. A progressive canning company was established in Austin, Indiana in 1899, by a group of local men that included J. S. Morgan. By 1906 J. S. Morgan had bought and traded his way into complete company ownership. In 1917 J. S. and his son I. C. Morgan formed a partnership and changed the name of the company to Morgan Packing Co. Until the early 1970s, Morgan sold either private-label foods or packed foods under its own label. In 1971 it entered into contracts to pack and sell products under other company’s names. Morgan Foods now focuses on private label soup and other mixed-ingredient products. By 1992, Morgan Foods had already joined Campbell’s as one of the nation’s 3 largest condensed soup manufacturers. Continuing its emphasis on research and development, they continue to produce high-quality products. Today, 2014, there are 2 Morgan family members continuing to carry on the tradition of leadership in store brand manufacturing.
I have a colorful magazine cover from the January 1942 issue of FLEET OWNER magazine, with a full cover ad from The White Motor Company illustrating a colorful red ‘Super Power White’ tractor pulling a red and yellow ‘Scott County Canned Foods” semi-trailer very similar to the trailer in the above 8x10 photos. It states that Morgan Packing Company uses a fleet of 175 Super Power Whites to distribute their product to more than 3,500 outlets from Denver to New England and Miami, Florida, from its huge cannery in Austin, Indiana.
HISTORY OF INDIANA MOTORS CORPORATION: Known as an ‘assembled’ truck, being assembled from major manufacturers components, Indiana began production in Marion, IN, in 1920 with a line of 1-1/2 to 5-ton trucks. From 1927 to 1932 Indiana was under the control of Brockway Motors when control was passed to White Motor Co. An early user of Cummins Diesels in 1932, most Indiana trucks of the 1930s used Hercules 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder gas engines. Truck production ended in 1939.
