    Description

This Historical Reenacting item is from a smoke-free home and smoke-free environment.  Very well taken care of and from a personal collection of historical re-enacting uniforms and costumes.
    A good reproduction of the
Civil War U.S. issue Artillery Enlisted Man’s Shell Jacket –
Typical U.S. Federal Issue enlisted, Artillery shell jacket, constructed of thin dark blue wool - jacket is trimmed in red cotton piping.
Film used ("Field of Lost Shoes" among other projects), and lined in black cotton. Sleeves lined in off-white cotton.
Small union eagle buttons of cuff size down the front of the jacket -  Missing 5 of the buttons (easily replaced).  Collar is piped in common style of two rows, per button, of red trim.
Two rolled wool and trimmed belt bolsters on the back of jacket.
Military shell jackets were short jackets that extended down to hip level and were commonly issued in the mid and late 19th century. This type of jacket was first made regulation for the US army in 1833. Cavalry uniforms were navy blue with orange (later yellow) piping, and artillery uniforms were identical but with red piping; they had brass rather than silver buttons.
Marked and measured as a 40” chest, BUT is patterned much, much larger (see the measurements below) and fits more like a 46" chest.  Loose in the chest and belly.
    Armpit-to-Armpit:
    24”
    Sleeve Length:
    25”
    Body Length:
    24
